Asante Kotoko are on the verge of appointing experienced South African tactician Eric Tinkler as their new head coach, ending the club’s search for a permanent manager ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Porcupine Warriors have been without a substantive coach since the departure of Karim Zito, with Prince Yaw Owusu and later Hamza Obeng taking charge of the team on an interim basis.

The club recently strengthened its technical setup by appointing Dutch football legend Stanley Menzo as Director of Football, with one of his key responsibilities being the recruitment of a new head coach.

Tinkler arrives with extensive coaching experience in the South African Premier Soccer League, having managed several top-flight clubs including Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Chippa United and Maritzburg United. His most recent role was with Sekhukhune United.

The 55-year-old, who earned 45 caps for South Africa during his playing career, also boasts a respectable coaching record. He won the League Cup with Cape Town City in 2016, the Nedbank Cup with Orlando Pirates in the 2013/14 season, and the South Africa 8 Cup with SuperSport United in the 2017/18 campaign.

His expected arrival is seen as a significant step for Kotoko as the club looks to build a competitive squad and restore stability ahead of the new season.
