The Ghana Police Service has arrested multiple suspected drug peddlers during a series of intelligence-led operations across the Kumasi Metropolis, leading to the seizure of large quantities of suspected narcotic substances.
The operation was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team (SOT) in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters on June 25, 2026, the raids targeted several communities identified as major drug distribution and sale hubs.
One of the key arrests was 61-year-old Kwame Afriyie, popularly known as “Con Papa” or “American Man”, who was apprehended during an operation at Asawase.
A search of his room and provision shop led to the recovery of 81 parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cannabis.
In a separate operation at Asafo, police arrested Kofi Acheampong, also known as “Mokobiley”. A search of his room uncovered 311 transparent sachets containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, 13 compressed parcels of dried leaves, 10 brown paper wraps containing black rock-like substances suspected to be narcotics, and quantities of restricted pharmaceutical products.
Meanwhile, a raid at Krofrom led to the arrest of 22-year-old National Service personnel Michael Owusu Agyeman, who was allegedly found with 15 bottles of fruit juice suspected to have been laced with cannabis.
Police also arrested 10 additional suspects during operations in Atonsu-Bokuro, Krofrom, Kenyase, Asokwa, Buokrom and Asafo BB.
They were identified as Adamu Ibrahim, Stanley Boahene, Favour Emmanuel, Abubakar Sadick, Adwoa Serwaa Boamah, Paul Quagraine, Nana Kwasi Amo Peprah, Hamdiyah Ibrahim, Nicholas Adorku and Natson Yaaba.
The Ghana Police Service said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be processed in accordance with the law.
