Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed unwavering confidence in his players ahead of Ghana’s opening Group L encounter against Panama national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign at BMO Field, with kick-off scheduled for 23:00 GMT, as they seek a place in the knockout stages for the first time since the 2010 tournament.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Queiroz acknowledged the unpredictable nature of football, insisting that success depends on commitment, preparation and execution on match day.
“The final outcome of football is always a mystery. We never know because there is no formula that gives you success in football,” Queiroz said.
“It is what you have to do on the day and how committed you are during the game.”
The experienced Portuguese tactician, who has managed at several FIFA World Cups, emphasized that players ultimately determine what happens on the pitch.
“After all these years, to be honest with you, I have a strong belief that this is a game of players,” he stated.
“The moment we start the game, I count on my players, and they are ready for that.”
Queiroz’s confidence comes after Ghana completed the final phase of their preparations in North America, with the squad hoping to make a strong start against a Panama side that has also expressed confidence ahead of the tournament.
Following the Panama clash, the Black Stars will face England national football team at Gillette Stadium on June 23 before concluding their Group L campaign against Croatia national football team on June 27.
With a challenging group ahead, Queiroz believes his players are prepared for the task as Ghana aims to recreate the success of its memorable 2010 World Cup run and secure a place in the knockout rounds.
