Hours of heavy rainfall have left parts of Sandema, the capital of the Builsa North Municipality in the Upper East Region, submerged, rendering hundreds of residents homeless.
The flooding has also cut off the major road linking Sandema to Navrongo and the regional capital, stranding commuters on both sides of the route.
According to residents, the only alternative route to the regional capital is through Yagaba in the North East Region.
Several homes and properties have reportedly been affected by the floodwaters, with residents struggling to salvage their belongings.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service are currently assessing the extent of the damage and coordinating response efforts.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as assessments continue and relief measures are put in place for affected residents.
