NPP Ashanti Regional First Vice Chairman hopeful, Akwasi Nti, has claimed he was promised GH¢2 million to step down as the party’s chairman in Adansi Fomena to pave the way for the constituency’s MP, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, to align with the NPP and support the party’s majority status in Parliament.

According to Akwasi Nti, the arrangement was linked to efforts by the NPP to secure the support of Amoako Asiamah after he won the Adansi Fomena parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the 2020 general election.

Speaking in an interview on Pure FM on June 2, 2026, Nti recounted that Amoako Asiamah had fallen out with the NPP during the party’s parliamentary primaries and eventually contested as an independent after unsuccessful legal challenges.

Following his victory, Nti said the NPP sought to bring the MP closer to the party to strengthen its position in the 8th Parliament.

According to him, Amoako Asiamah made his support conditional on Nti stepping down from his position in the constituency.

“The money that they promised me was GH¢2 million and it was never given to me,” Nti alleged.

He claimed the failure to honour the promise led to disagreements between him and some party figures in the Ashanti Region.

“That is why I was fighting with some people in the region but I won’t mention names,” he said.

Nti further revealed that former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, later intervened and offered him financial assistance.

“So, Kennedy called me and gave me money to pay some of my debts because the party had not treated me fairly,” he stated.

According to Nti, the amount he received from Kennedy Agyapong was GH¢1 million, which helped him settle outstanding debts and eventually agree to step aside.

The claims add a fresh dimension to discussions surrounding the political events that followed the 2020 election, when Amoako Asiamah’s support proved crucial in helping the NPP maintain control of the majority caucus in Parliament.
