The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has announced that it no longer recognises certificates from 70 tertiary institutions across Ghana and several countries due to what it described as “various quality assurance concerns.”
In a statement issued on Monday, June 1, 2026, GTEC cautioned the public, employers, and students to exercise caution when dealing with qualifications awarded by the affected institutions.
According to the Commission, the list comprises both local and international universities, with the largest number coming from the United States, followed by Ghana, India, Nigeria, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Ghana institutions affected
Eight institutions in Ghana were listed:
- Debest College of Science, Arts and Business
- Faith University Seminary (FUS)
- Doxa Open University
- Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Training School
- Quest International University
- Kingdom Living Bible Institute, Kumasi
- Global Professional College, Effiduase
- Volta University College
United States tops the list
A total of 28 institutions from the United States were affected, including:
- Atlantic International University
- American Bible University
- Akamai University
- University of America
- Vision International University
- Louisiana Baptist University & Seminary
- Southern California International University
- American Management University
Other countries affected
The list also includes institutions from:

Among the institutions named were Atlantic International University, Monarch Business School, Texila American University, and Universidad Azteca.
GTEC said the decision was based on quality assurance concerns and advised prospective students to verify the accreditation status of institutions before enrolling.
The Commission further warned that qualifications obtained from the affected institutions may not be recognised for employment, promotions, professional licensing, or further studies in Ghana.
