The President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, has praised President John Dramani Mahama over ongoing road infrastructure projects in the Bono Region, describing the government’s “Big Push” initiative as a major boost for development.
Speaking during a meeting of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs in Sunyani, the traditional ruler said road projects underway in the region were already showing visible progress and could significantly improve economic activity.
According to him, contractors working on the various projects appear committed to meeting their timelines.
“The ongoing road projects in the region are progressing steadily, based on my personal observations,” he said, according to a report by myjoyonline.com.
Projects currently ongoing under the initiative include the Sunyani Outer Ring Road, the Sunyani-Atronie-Acherensua Road, the Sunyani-Wenchi-Berekum Road and the Jinijini-Sampa Road.
The Dormaahene also expressed excitement about the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway, saying he would personally walk from Dormaa Ahenkro to Accra to thank President Mahama if the project is completed on schedule.
He revealed that he had already observed preliminary military works on the project and hoped it would lead to full construction soon.
The planned 198.7-kilometre route is expected to become Ghana’s first six-lane access-controlled tolled expressway, aimed at reducing travel time between Accra and Kumasi while improving commercial activity.
“The importance of that road is such that strategic measures must be deployed to ensure the project starts and is completed on time to further ease the frustrations of drivers and passengers on the road,” he stated.
Beyond infrastructure, the Dormaahene also urged Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboah to remain focused on his responsibilities and avoid political distractions.
Touching on the ongoing chieftaincy dispute in Sampa, he appealed for calm and warned against violence, disclosing that the conflict had allegedly resulted in about 20 deaths.
He further called on journalists and bloggers to report responsibly on the matter and urged the judicial committee handling the dispute to ensure fairness and justice prevail.
Meanwhile, Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboah assured the chiefs that contractors handling the “Big Push” projects had expressed confidence in completing the works ahead of schedule.
He added that the Regional Coordinating Council would continue monitoring the projects to ensure quality standards are maintained.
The minister also disclosed that the Bono Region has benefited from more than 200 GETFund projects across different educational levels, which he said reflects the government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure.
He further pledged to continue working with stakeholders to maintain peace and security across the region.
