Police in the Upper East Region have launched investigations after a large quantity of ammunition was discovered at a mechanic workshop in Bolgatanga.

The ammunition was retrieved near the Assemblies of God Church following a report made by an auto mechanic whose apprentice reportedly noticed suspicious objects while cleaning the workshop premises.

According to a social media update released by the Upper East Regional Police Command on May 10, 2026, the discovery was made a day earlier after the mechanic alerted authorities.

Police officers who responded to the scene uncovered 1,400 rounds of ammunition, which were immediately secured for further examination.

“The Upper East Regional Police Command has retrieved a large quantity of ammunition at a mechanic workshop near the Assemblies of God Church in Bolgatanga,” part of the statement said.

“The retrieval followed a report made to the Police on 9th May 2026 by an auto mechanic, who stated that his apprentice discovered suspicious items while sweeping the workshop premises,” the statement added.

Investigators are now working to establish where the ammunition came from and whether the discovery is connected to any criminal activity within the region.
