Nollywood veteran Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has called for leaders in Nigeria who are willing to go the extra mile — even to the point of sacrificing their lives — for the nation.

She made the remarks on Sunday during an interview with Channels Television, speaking ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“It’s unfortunate that we’re still facing the challenges we have today,” Omotola said. “Nigeria has everything other nations aspire to, yet we are held back. I wish our leaders were bold enough to make decisions that could truly liberate this country, even if it meant risking their lives for Nigeria.”

Omotola emphasized the importance of laws and enforcement in maintaining national order. “Every nation can descend into chaos. Even the United States could be lawless if there were no laws or enforcement. What keeps any nation stable is adherence to the law, and it begins with leadership. My prayer is that Nigeria finds selfless leaders who are willing to put the country above themselves.”

She also criticized superficial displays of patriotism, noting, “We see people claiming ‘I love Nigeria,’ but their actions tell a different story. I grew up poor — I didn’t even have a single shoe. Many of the things they say are just words; they don’t truly care.”
