The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at the Odupongkpehe Polling Centre in Kasoa during the 2024 general elections.

The suspect, identified as Mujahid Suraj, also known as Mims, allegedly went into hiding after firing a pump-action gun that injured a voter on election day.

Eyewitnesses said at the time that Suraj had targeted Tamimu Tanko, a constituency executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). However, the shot missed its intended target and instead struck another man who had gone to the polling centre to cast his vote.

While some residents initially linked the shooting to political tensions, others suggested it stemmed from a longstanding personal feud between the suspect and Tamimu Tanko.

Suraj was arrested on the night of Saturday, January 17, after police intelligence revealed he had returned to his residence at Odupongkpehe Zongo in Kasoa. The arrest was carried out by the Kasoa Divisional Police Command.

Police sources have confirmed that the suspect is currently under investigation and will be arraigned before court to face prosecution.
