The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has apprehended a South African national at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for attempting to smuggle over 30 kilograms of cannabis into Ghana.
The suspect arrived on a flight from Thailand on Monday, November 10, and was detained following an intelligence-led operation that led to a thorough search of his luggage. Authorities discovered the cannabis vacuum-sealed and concealed within his personal belongings.
In a related development, an airline official at KIA was also arrested for allegedly aiding the suspect in evading security checks. Preliminary investigations by NACOC suggest a coordinated effort between the foreign national and the airline staff to transport the illegal drugs into Ghana.
Both individuals remain in custody and are cooperating with ongoing investigations.
NACOC reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on drug trafficking, emphasizing that all individuals, regardless of nationality or position, will be prosecuted under the law.
