Ghana forward Inaki Williams faces uncertainty over his participation in the Black Stars’ upcoming international friendlies after sustaining an injury while playing for Athletic Bilbao.

The 31-year-old captain was forced off in the 38th minute of Bilbao’s 3-1 UEFA Champions League win over Qarabag FK, with the club later confirming he had suffered an adductor injury.

“Iñaki Williams had to be subbed off in the 38th minute of Wednesday’s Champions League match against Qarabag FK after suffering an injury to the adductor muscles in his right leg,” Athletic Bilbao said in an official statement.

The extent of the injury and his expected recovery time have not yet been disclosed.

Ghana is scheduled to play Japan on November 14 and South Korea on November 18 in a pair of friendly matches, following the team’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This latest setback adds to a growing list of injury concerns for the Spanish-born Ghanaian, who is renowned for his durability. Williams previously missed Ghana’s 5-0 win over the Central African Republic and 1-0 victory against Comoros in October’s World Cup qualifiers due to a muscle overload in his left leg.

His potential absence would be a significant blow to Coach Otto Addo’s plans as Ghana prepares for next month’s fixtures.
