Abigail Elorm Mensah, CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), has disclosed that the agency, with assistance from National Security operatives, has successfully retrieved three government‑owned vehicles from the residence of Bernard Antwi Boasiako—better known as Chairman Wontumi—the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Ms. Mensah said this action forms part of MASLOC’s continued effort to reclaim government loans and assets from those who have defaulted.

“I have gone with National Security operatives to the house of the Chairman of the NPP in Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi. Three cars. In fact, the cars were five. We’ve retrieved three. I have collected all from his house. We are still chasing him for the two. He has to pay for them,” she said.

According to Ms. Mensah, MASLOC’s operating rules require individuals who borrow government assets—such as vehicles—or fail to fulfil repayment obligations, to either return the assets or settle what they owe before being released from these obligations.

“What we do is that once I seize the cars, the agreement we have with you is that you would have to repay whatever has accrued and we release the cars to you,” she explained.

She further noted that MASLOC has reported multiple cases of asset misappropriation to the police in order to protect public property.

Giving another example, Ms. Mensah cited a case involving a relative of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The relative allegedly refused to return a government‑issued Nissan Urvan after he was provided with a new vehicle.

“I have a situation where a brother of former Vice President Seidu Imoro picks a car and he is bold to tell us that ‘well he has used the car to work and he’s bought his own, so if we want we could come for it.’ So we’ve seized it,” she said.

MASLOC appears determined to continue recovering misused government assets and enforcing accountability in line with its mandate.
