The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), while sanctioning hundreds of candidates over examination malpractice.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, WAEC announced that candidates can access their results through their respective schools or online via the council’s official website.
“The West African Examinations Council wishes to inform its numerous publics that it has released provisional results of candidates who sat for the BECE for School Candidates, 2026. The Council will dispatch the results of school candidates to their respective schools through the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education. The results are also available on the Council’s official website for candidates who wish to access them online,” the statement said.
The council also revealed that it had taken disciplinary action against several candidates after completing investigations into examination irregularities detected during the conduct of the exams and the marking of scripts.
According to WAEC, the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved the cancellation of the entire results of 105 candidates, while the subject results of 496 candidates were also cancelled.
In addition, the subject results of 119 candidates and the entire results of 48 candidates have been withheld pending further investigations.
WAEC further disclosed that the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have also been withheld for additional scrutiny.
The council explained that the affected results could either be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of ongoing investigations, which are expected to be completed by August 31, 2026.
Candidates and stakeholders have been advised to check results only through official WAEC channels and await the outcome of investigations involving withheld results.
