Seven Dead, Dozens Injured in Offinso-Abofuor Highway Crash

A tragic road accident on the Offinso-Abofuor Highway in the Ashanti Region has claimed seven lives and left several others critically injured.

Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, January 7, 2026, near the communities of Samproso and Awisam, off Offinso.

Kwadwo Obeng Mireku, an eyewitness reported that a commercial bus (registration GT 5509-20) traveling from Techiman to Kumasi collided head-on with a cement-laden trailer (registration GN 5326-22).

“The trailer, loaded with cement from a factory in Samproso, had stalled on the road due to engine failure. The bus, traveling at high speed, crashed into it. Six people died on the spot, and one more later succumbed to injuries in the hospital,” he said.

The victims and the injured were taken to St. Patrick Hospital at Offinso Maase for treatment. The police have cordoned off the area, cleared the wreckage, and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
