President John Dramani Mahama has lauded the management of Ghana’s currency, noting that the Cedi has regained respect both domestically and internationally.
Speaking at the Cedi@60 commemoration organized by the Bank of Ghana in Accra, under the theme “Sovereignty, Stability, and Economic Resilience”, President Mahama praised the Bank of Ghana and the Ministry of Finance for their crucial role in stabilising the nation’s currency.
“I want to thank the governor and the entire team at the BoG, as well as the Ministry of Finance. Ghanaians are grateful for your management of our currency,” he said.
He highlighted the renewed confidence in the Cedi, adding: “I believe a lot of respect has returned to our currency. I hope you will continue your work to prevent excess liquidity—open market operations and other technical measures—to ensure the Cedi remains strong.”
President Mahama urged central bank and finance officials to maintain their efforts, emphasizing: “Whatever you are doing, continue doing it, so that the Cedi is respected.”
The Cedi@60 celebration marks six decades since Ghana introduced its national currency in 1965, replacing the Ghanaian Pound—a milestone symbolizing the country’s ongoing commitment to economic sovereignty and stability.
