Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports is set to invite the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Minister for Sports to answer questions about the Black Stars’ disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Committee Chairman Ernest Henry Norgbey said lawmakers have not yet conducted an inquiry into the team’s recent performances but intend to examine what is behind Ghana’s struggles.
He said the planned engagement will focus specifically on the state of the Black Stars and broader concerns surrounding Ghana football.
“We as a committee are yet to investigate the performance of the Black Stars in recent times. We plan to invite the GFA, the Minister, purposely and specifically to interrogate what actually is happening to Ghana football, especially when it comes to the Black Stars,” Norgbey told Akoma 87.9 FM.
The move follows a difficult start to Ghana’s Group C campaign, with the Black Stars losing both of their opening matches.
Ghana began the qualifiers with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouake before suffering an unexpected 4-2 home loss to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The result against The Gambia was particularly damaging, as the Black Stars surrendered a two-goal lead before conceding four goals in the remainder of the match.
Norgbey said the committee’s objective would be to establish the factors responsible for the team’s recent difficulties before determining what action, if any, should be taken.
The proposed meeting will bring the GFA and the Sports Ministry before Parliament as lawmakers seek explanations for the Black Stars’ performances and the broader state of Ghana football.
With Ghana yet to pick up a point from its first two Group C matches, the parliamentary engagement could add another layer of scrutiny as the team attempts to revive its qualification campaign.
