A 35-year-old nurse has been granted bail of GH₵100,000 with two sureties by the Asante Akropong District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District after being accused of defrauding a colleague in Tafo, Kumasi.

The accused, Esther Asamoah Dufie, pleaded not guilty to a charge of defrauding by false pretence. She is expected to reappear before the court, presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Wiafe Adu, on November 27, 2025.

Presenting the facts, Police Detective Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu told the court that the complainant, Ruth Afia Antwiwaa, worked with the accused at the same health facility. The two lived at Tafo and Ohwimase, respectively.

According to the prosecution, in January 2025, Dufie advertised a supposed travel opportunity to the United Kingdom on her WhatsApp status. The complainant expressed interest, and the accused claimed the opportunity came from her brother, allegedly a military officer in the UK.

The complainant later informed her friend’s husband, who also expressed interest. Together, they paid GH₵54,090 into a CalBank account provided by the accused.

Dufie reportedly promised to bring a dependant from the UK in April 2025 to begin the visa process, but nothing materialised. When repeated attempts to obtain a refund failed, the complainant reported the matter to the Abuakwa Police on September 16, 2025, leading to Dufie’s arrest.

In her caution statement, Dufie admitted to taking the money and asked for time to repay it by October 10, 2025. She was granted police enquiry bail but later absconded. She was rearrested on October 27 at Tafo.

Following further investigations, she was formally charged and arraigned before the court.
