Achiase MP Kofi Ahenkora Marfo has challenged the newly elected Eastern Regional executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to work aggressively to reclaim all parliamentary seats the party lost in the 2024 general elections.
He said rebuilding the NPP’s strength in the Eastern Region would be essential to the party’s plans to return to government in the 2028 elections.
Speaking to GhanaWeb, Ahenkora Marfo said unity must be at the heart of the regional executives’ work if the party is to reverse the setbacks recorded in the last election.
Although the NPP retained control of the Eastern Region in 2024, he noted that its share of the popular vote fell significantly.
“The NPP won the Eastern Region, but our percentage dropped from about 62% to 51%. This should tell us that there is work to be done,” he said.
The Achiase MP therefore urged the new leadership to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, reconnect with voters and make winning back the parliamentary constituencies lost in 2024 a priority.
He said recovering the lost seats alone would not be enough, arguing that the party must also improve its share of the total vote across the region.
According to him, a stronger showing in the Eastern Region, combined with gains elsewhere, would improve the NPP’s chances of winning both the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2028.
Ahenkora Marfo also called on retained Eastern Regional Chairman Jeff Konadu Addo to unite the newly elected executives behind a common objective and build a disciplined and committed team.
He stressed that unity, discipline and hard work would be critical to the party’s rebuilding efforts.
The MP further encouraged the executives to move beyond internal differences and concentrate on restoring confidence among party supporters and voters.
He said the broader goal should be to rebuild a united and formidable NPP in the Eastern Region capable of delivering a strong electoral performance for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in 2028.
