A member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce has died following a vehicle crash near the Obuasi Airport area in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources confirmed that the accident occurred during a major operation targeting illegal mining activities (galamsey) in the area.
The officer died on the spot, while four others sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The Ministry stated that a full investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to the safety and welfare of all personnel involved in anti-galamsey operations.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all frontline personnel and will ensure they receive the utmost support and care,” the statement added.
