Residents of Torkoni/Blave in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region have been left shocked following the reported death of a mobile money (MoMo) vendor in the area.
The incident came to light around 6:00pm on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The deceased, whose identity has not yet been officially confirmed, operated a mobile money business and also sold items such as toothpaste, sponges, and brushes at the Hohoe main lorry station.
The Assembly Member for the Torkoni/Blave Electoral Area, Mr Derek Adzoe, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that information available to him indicates the deceased was heard making several phone calls earlier in the day.
According to Mr Adzoe, the conversations suggested that the deceased was being pressed to pay an amount of money and had indicated his intention to settle the issue through mobile money or electronic cash transfer.
He further disclosed that some individuals later went to the deceased’s residence, knocked on his door, and allegedly threatened to report him to the police.
Mr Adzoe said the deceased’s brother reported that his sibling appeared visibly disturbed after the phone calls but did not explain what was wrong. The brother later left for town and returned to find the room locked.
After repeated attempts to reach the deceased by phone proved unsuccessful, the door was forced open and the deceased was found unresponsive.
Mr Adzoe, who was present at the scene, said the police have since conveyed the body to the morgue as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death continue.
