Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has called on voters in the Akwatia constituency to support the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Bernard Bediako, in the upcoming by-election.
Speaking to enthusiastic party supporters on Sunday, August 31, 2025, Mr. Debrah conveyed a direct message from former President John Dramani Mahama, emphasizing the NDC flagbearer’s desire to work closely with Bediako in his next government.
“John Mahama says I should tell you, the people of Akwatia, that he wants to work with the NDC candidate Bernard Bediako in his government,” Mr. Debrah declared.
The appeal was part of the NDC’s final campaign push ahead of the by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, September 2. The contest has drawn significant national attention, as both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC battle for control of the key seat.
Mr. Debrah urged voters to not only show their support at rallies but to translate it into actual votes at the polls, noting that an NDC victory would strengthen government collaboration with Akwatia for accelerated development.
The by-election was triggered by the passing of the sitting MP, Ernest Kumi.
Meanwhile, recent polling data indicates that Bernard Bediako holds a slight lead in the race. A survey conducted by Sanity Africa between August 1 and 27 shows Bediako with 52.3%, while the NPP’s Solomon Asumadu trails closely at 47.7%, a 4.6-point gap.
Similarly, Global Info Analytics projects Bediako at 53%, compared to Asumadu’s 47%, reinforcing the NDC candidate’s frontrunner status as election day approaches.
