President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government has begun granting financial clearance to the Ministry of Education to recruit at least 16,000 newly trained teachers nationwide.

The President said the initiative aims to reduce the backlog of graduate teachers who have completed their training but are still awaiting employment.

Speaking at Peki College of Education in the Volta Region, Mahama stressed that newly trained teachers should not have to endure long delays before being posted to schools.

He described the prolonged wait for employment after graduation as unacceptable and assured stakeholders that the financial clearance would help ensure a smoother transition from training institutions into the classroom.

According to the President, the recruitment drive forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen the country’s education sector by improving its human resource capacity.

He added that expanding the teaching workforce would create employment opportunities for young graduates, reduce the workload on existing teachers and contribute to improving the quality of education at the basic and second-cycle levels across the country.
