The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has approved the official fee schedule for the University of Ghana for the 2025/2026 academic year, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and clarity in tertiary education financing.
The approval was announced in a statement issued on Monday, January 12, 2026, and signed by GTEC’s Director-General, Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai. The Commission explained that the move follows public concerns over the university’s fees and is intended to provide certainty for students and other stakeholders.
According to GTEC, the Academic Facility User Fee will remain the same as in the 2024/2025 academic year, meaning there will be no increase under that category. The Commission noted that maintaining the fee is aimed at reducing the financial burden on students while ensuring consistency in fee administration.
Under the approved structure, students will pay SRC dues of GH₵50, an SRC Development Levy of GH₵150, and a Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) Development Levy of GH₵250. Undergraduate students, including freshmen, will also be required to pay a Telecel Broadband Levy of GH₵122.
In addition, GTEC approved a one-time 75th Anniversary Levy of GH₵100, which will apply only during the 2025/2026 academic year and will not be carried forward.
The Commission emphasized the need for students to be properly informed of their rights, including the ability to opt out of certain levies where applicable.
GTEC said the announcement is intended to address outstanding issues related to the University of Ghana’s 2025/2026 fee schedule and expressed confidence in the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation, as part of broader efforts to promote transparency and compliance across the tertiary education sector.
