The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reiterated government’s commitment to fulfilling President Mahama’s key pledge to enhance teacher welfare by providing accessible and affordable housing.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, November 19, the minister announced that the Ministry is currently assessing proposals from major funding bodies to support the rollout of a nationwide teacher housing initiative.
“As stated in the manifesto, we committed to delivering teacher bungalows. I am reviewing a document and proposal from the District Assemblies Common Fund. Working with the DACF, GETFund, GSOP, and teacher pension funds, we aim to deliver 50,000 housing units for teachers,” he said.
Mr. Iddrisu also revealed that the Administrator of the DACF recently traveled to Morocco to explore potential partnerships for the project.
“What remains is to finalize the appropriate funding mechanism for implementation,” he added.
He stressed that enhancing educational infrastructure and supporting teacher welfare are central pillars of government’s broader agenda to transform Ghana’s education system.
