The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is yet to provide an explanation for the delay in paying the GH¢1 million promised to Ghana Premier League clubs, with its Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, admitting he does not know why the funds have not been released.

Asante Twum said he had not been briefed on the payment and could therefore not confirm when the clubs should expect to receive the money.

Speaking in an interview with MX FM, he cautioned against making claims without first establishing the facts, explaining that the sensitivity of the issue required him to consult the relevant officials.

“The club CEOs are saying they haven’t received the money? I don’t know why, because I haven’t found out. I may lie if I say anything, and my seat is very sensitive, so I need to check and know why before I can make any comment,” he said.

The GFA spokesperson indicated that he would contact the appropriate department within the association to establish the reason for the delay and provide an update when he had more information.

His comments come amid concerns among club chief executive officers and other stakeholders over the outstanding payment.

The promised GH¢1 million was expected to provide financial support to clubs competing in the Ghana Premier League. However, the delay has raised questions as clubs continue to meet regular operational expenses.

For now, Asante Twum has not provided a timeline for the payment, saying he needs to verify the situation before commenting further.
