Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, a staff member of the Electoral Commission (EC), has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to remove EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputies, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey, citing alleged misconduct that he says undermines the credibility of Ghana’s electoral system.
The petition, submitted on Monday, November 24, 2025, was filed under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the procedure for removing heads of independent constitutional bodies.
While Mr. Adumadzie did not disclose the full contents of the petition, he confirmed that it is based on 12 counts of alleged misbehaviour, including cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence.
He argued that the conduct of the three senior officials has weakened public confidence in the EC and threatens the integrity and independence of Ghana’s electoral process.
Mr. Adumadzie stated that his actions are intended to uphold the Constitution and strengthen accountable governance.
He urged President Mahama to refer the petition to the Chief Justice to determine a prima facie case, in accordance with Article 146 procedures, emphasizing the importance of protecting the dignity and credibility of the Electoral Commission.
