A Ghanaian man, Daniel Ofori Asante, has accused the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge, of negligence in the death of his wife, Theresa Boakye Dua, following complications related to a scheduled Caesarean section.
Ofori Asante made the allegations in a statement ahead of his wife’s burial on Friday, August 28, 2026, just 19 months after their marriage.
According to him, Theresa entrusted Ridge Hospital with her care but died following what he described as a “horrific ordeal” that began on July 16, 2026.
He alleged that the circumstances surrounding her death reflected failures within the healthcare system and serious shortcomings by medical personnel involved in her care.
The death has also left their newborn son without his mother, a loss Ofori Asante said had devastated both sides of the family.
“Our baby boy has been robbed of the unconditional love of a devoted mother,” he said.
He also expressed concern for Theresa’s mother, describing the loss of her only child as particularly painful.
Ofori Asante recalled picking up his father-in-law from the airport two weeks before the burial after he returned to Ghana unexpectedly.
He said the family had seen him off in January with plans for his return in 2027.
“He wasn’t scheduled to return to Ghana until 2027 yet here he is, brought home early by blatant negligence and unprofessionalism at the very highest level,” he stated.
Describing his late wife as “a gentle, peaceful, and unproblematic soul,” Ofori Asante accused those responsible for her care of making what he considers reckless decisions that contributed to her death.
He said Theresa’s family, colleagues at the Ministry of Health, members of ICGC Covenant Temple and friends were all struggling to come to terms with the loss.
The grieving husband said, however, that the funeral would not mark the end of his search for answers.
He promised to disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding Theresa’s death after laying her to rest.
“After I honor my wife today Friday 28th August, 2026, the full truth will be told,” he said, describing the events as involving “Unprofessionalism, Manipulation, and Extortion.”
Ofori Asante acknowledged that no amount of revelations could bring his wife back, but said he was determined to pursue the matter to ensure that other pregnant women and their families do not experience a similar ordeal.
As he prepared to bury Theresa, he described her as his “best friend, my soulmate, and the love of my life.”
“I love you endlessly, T. Da yie, me dɔfo pa,” he wrote.
