Richard Ahiagbah, the National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially announced his intention to contest for the party’s National First Vice Chairmanship, promising to help rebuild the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a declaration of intent shared widely online, Ahiagbah said the NPP must use the lessons from its 2024 electoral defeat to regroup and move forward with renewed purpose.
He argued that the party’s future depends on recommitting itself to its founding principles of liberty, the rule of law and free market values.
Ahiagbah stressed that restoring discipline within the party would be essential to rebuilding unity and strengthening its structures.
“That is why our reorganization must produce disciplined leaders,” he said. “And without unity, we cannot achieve the victory Ghanaians envision for us in 2028.”
He called on delegates to elect a National First Vice Chairman during the party’s September 19, 2026, national delegates conference who can work closely with the National Chairman to reorganise the party and reconnect with its grassroots base.
Presenting his vision, Ahiagbah outlined a five-point agenda centred on strengthening the NPP’s liberal-conservative ideals, improving party administration at all levels, and promoting accountability and mutual respect among members.
He also pledged to foster greater inclusion within the party to ensure every member feels recognised and heard, while working towards making the NPP a united and election-ready political force.
Describing the NPP as “Ghana’s best path to prosperity, strong leadership, and good governance,” Ahiagbah acknowledged that many Ghanaians are looking for leaders who are disciplined, unifying and possess integrity.
“I am prepared to meet those expectations,” he said, as he appealed to delegates for their “vote, guidance, and prayers.”
The NPP is expected to elect new national executives in September as part of its reorganisation following its defeat in the 2024 general elections, with the party seeking to position itself for a return to power in 2028.
