The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will march to the offices of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Monday, July 13, 2026, to demand answers over the arrest of its Director of Communications, Dennis Miracles Aboagye.
The party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, said the protest is intended to seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding the arrest, which the NPP claims is an attempt to intimidate members of the opposition.
Speaking on Channel One News on Sunday, July 12, 2026, Nana Boakye alleged that Aboagye was arrested without receiving any prior invitation or notification from EOCO regarding an investigation or any alleged offence.
“Miracles has not received any invitation from EOCO. He has not been informed of any wrongdoing. He has not been told that he is under any form of investigation,” he said.
Nana Boakye also expressed concern over what he described as the growing use of state institutions to target political opponents, arguing that such actions undermine Ghana’s democratic principles.
He stressed, however, that the NPP supports accountability and would cooperate with any lawful investigation involving its members, provided due process is followed.
The planned demonstration follows claims by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, that Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officials with the assistance of Immigration officers at the Accra International Airport.
According to Kodua, Aboagye’s lawyers have been denied access to him, his whereabouts remain unknown, and no formal charges have been communicated.
EOCO had not publicly commented on the arrest or responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
