President John Dramani Mahama has described Ghana as a model of economic recovery in Africa, saying the country is now being cited as an example for others to follow.
According to him, many countries and international institutions have expressed surprise at Ghana’s economic turnaround after the challenges inherited from the previous administration.
Speaking to Ghanaians in the diaspora, President Mahama said Ghana’s progress has attracted global attention, particularly during meetings of international financial institutions.
“Indeed a lot of people are surprised at how it was achieved. Ghana has become the poster boy for economic recovery across the world and anytime we go for the spring meetings of the World Bank and the IMF, everybody is pointing to Ghana and telling other African countries to go and learn how they did it,” he said.
The President noted that the country’s macroeconomic indicators are moving in the right direction, reflecting growing stability in the economy.
He added that Ghana has regained its standing and respect on the international stage due to the improvements made over the past months.
According to him, the positive developments should make Ghanaians proud and confident about the country’s future.
“This is the time that we must be proud to be Ghanaian, not only because our economy is doing well, but because we can see that we are making forward progress towards the country that our forebearers envisaged us to become,” he stated.
President Mahama expressed optimism that continued discipline and sound economic management would help sustain the gains achieved and further improve the lives of Ghanaians.
