Leader of the March and March Movement in South Africa, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, has appealed for public support after revealing that she and members of her group have been dragged to court by the South African Human Rights Commission.
In a video shared on X on May 28, 2026, Jacinta claimed the legal action against her, her movement, and their lawyer was unfair and politically motivated.
According to her, the Human Rights Commission should be protecting South Africans instead of targeting activists campaigning against illegal immigration.
“The Human Rights Commission has taken me to court in my personal capacity, taken our lawyer to court, and some of our members as well. They have cited us as respondents because they claim the police need to arrest us for stopping illegal immigrants in hospitals who are here for all kinds of reasons besides emergency healthcare,” she said.
Jacinta further accused the commission of siding with undocumented migrants rather than defending the rights of South African citizens.
“The South African Human Rights Commission, which is supposed to protect our right to life and ensure that the law is upheld, is the very same commission now seeking to aid and abet illegal immigrants in the country instead of making provisions for them to be deported and returned to their countries of origin,” she added.
The activist, who has been linked to anti-immigrant protests and xenophobic attacks targeting Ghanaians and other African nationals, also called on supporters to attend her court appearance at the Durban High Court.
“So, we are calling on all South Africans who are available on Tuesday to please join us at the Durban High Court. That is where we will be appearing, and we want to make our voices heard,” she stated.
She argued that South Africa was struggling to cope with the growing number of undocumented migrants and claimed state resources were being overstretched.
“The country can no longer take care of all these illegal immigrants. None of our resources is capable of, or even budgeted for, accommodating so many people who are not South African citizens,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Ghanaian government has already begun evacuating some Ghanaian nationals from South Africa following recent xenophobic tensions in the country.
