At least 12 people have died in a fatal road accident involving a commercial mini-bus and a trailer at Nkenkensu in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region.
The accident happened on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, on the Kumasi-Techiman highway when the mini-bus, travelling from Kumasi to Techiman, collided head-on with an oncoming trailer heading towards Kumasi.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the mini-bus reportedly attempted to overtake another vehicle but moved into the lane of the approaching trailer, leading to the crash.
Medical staff at the Nkenkensu Government Hospital confirmed that 12 passengers were pronounced dead on arrival, while two others sustained critical injuries and are receiving treatment.
An eyewitness, Eric Twumasi Frimpong, told GHOne News Ashanti Regional correspondent Isaac Justice Bediako that the accident occurred around 2:00 p.m., but emergency response efforts were delayed.
“It took more than an hour before an ambulance arrived to transport the injured victims to the hospital,” he said.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Nkenkensu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and identification.
The incident has renewed concerns about road safety and dangerous overtaking on major highways across Ghana.
