Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin says the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) remains focused on rebuilding and strengthening the party while in opposition after holding meetings with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and party elders in the Ashanti Region.
In a post shared on X after his visit to Kumasi on Sunday, May 24, 2026, Afenyo-Markin said he met Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace to discuss governance issues and the expectations of Ghanaians.
“On Sunday, 24th May 2026, I had the singular honour of an audience with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at his Royal Palace in Manhyia, Kumasi. Our discussions centred on pressing governance matters facing our nation and how best to meet the aspirations of our people,” he wrote.
The Effutu MP later met with the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders of the NPP, where discussions focused on national issues and the work of the Minority Caucus in Parliament.
According to him, the meeting allowed him to seek guidance from senior party members as the NPP prepares for life in opposition.
“I was humbled by the wealth of wisdom and experience in that room,” he stated.
Afenyo-Markin said the discussions focused on “key national issues of concern and the work of the Minority NPP Caucus in Parliament.”
He added that he sought the support and guidance of the elders to help strengthen the party’s strategy and engagement with supporters in the Ashanti Region.
“I called upon their wisdom and guidance to strengthen our resolve, sharpen our strategy, and deepen our engagement with the people of the Ashanti Region,” he said.
He also thanked the elders for their advice and pledged to continue working closely with them.
“I am deeply grateful for their counsel and remain committed to working in close partnership with them in the service of our party and our nation,” he wrote.
Afenyo-Markin described the Ashanti Region as an important base for the NPP and called on party members to remain united despite the challenges of opposition politics.
“The Ashanti Region remains a cornerstone of our party and a beacon of our democratic values,” he noted.
He urged party faithful at all levels to stay committed and united as the party works toward returning to power.
“As we navigate the challenging times we face in opposition, I call on every NPP faithful, from grassroots activists to constituency, regional and national executives to stand firm, stay united, and trust in the strength of our collective purpose,” he said.
