Residents of Akyem Oda were left shaken after a violent confrontation between a group of young men erupted in broad daylight, with disturbing footage of the incident quickly spreading across social media.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command says calm has since been restored at the New Station area, where the clash occurred, after officers moved in to contain the situation.
In a statement released on May 6, 2026, DSP David Fianko-Okyere of the Police Public Affairs Unit confirmed that the altercation involved men attacking one another with cutlasses and other sharp weapons. The incident, captured in a viral video, showed chaotic scenes as the group engaged in the bloody confrontation in public view.
Police said some of the suspects sustained severe injuries and were receiving treatment at separate health facilities in Akyem Oda.
“Suspect George Okyere, age 30 with a deep cut on his forehead and his right finger chopped off was met at the emergency ward of the Oda Jubilee Hospital while suspect Paul Pascalele was met at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital emergency ward with a deep cut on the right hand receiving treatment,” part of the statement read.
Authorities also confirmed the arrest of another suspect identified as Evans Adayele, who was reportedly picked up from his hideout to assist with investigations.
Police say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other individuals believed to have taken part in the clash as investigations continue.
The Regional Command assured residents that security agencies remain on top of the situation and reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and public safety in the area.
