The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into an attack on a Jacobu District patrol team by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum in the Ashanti Region.
The incident, according to a Facebook post by the Police, occurred on Thursday, January 23, 2026, while officers were carrying out routine patrol duties.
Police said the patrol team had earlier recovered a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy and instructed him to ensure that the weapon’s owner reported to the station with the proper documentation.
While returning, the patrol team was reportedly confronted by a crowd of about 100 people who blocked the road. Some members of the crowd, allegedly armed with cutlasses and firearms, attacked the officers and seized a service rifle.
During the confrontation, the individual who took the rifle was shot by police, and another suspect sustained injuries. The service rifle was successfully recovered.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has warned the public against attacking law enforcement officers, emphasizing that anyone who engages in such acts will be pursued and made to face the full rigours of the law.
