The Tema Regional Police Command has seized 1,613 parcels of substances believed to be narcotic drugs following a targeted operation along the Akosombo–Tema road.
The interception took place in the early hours of Saturday, January 11, 2026, as part of sustained efforts by the police to combat drug trafficking within the region. The operation was initiated after intelligence received on January 10 suggested that a consignment of suspected narcotics was being transported from the Volta Region to Tema.
Acting on the tip-off, officers mounted surveillance around the Agomeda Junction, where they stopped two vehicles at about 12:45 a.m.—a white Toyota Highlander (registration number GS 2013-13) and a black Mitsubishi Pajero (GC 400-22). The drivers, identified as 33-year-old Isaac Odoi and 39-year-old Kwame Mani, were arrested at the scene.
A search of the vehicles uncovered 872 parcels of suspected narcotic substances concealed in the Mitsubishi Pajero and 741 parcels in the Toyota Highlander.
Commenting on the operation, ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, praised the prompt action of the officers involved, noting that their swift response prevented the drugs from reaching the public.
The suspects and the seized items were transferred to the Tema Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on January 12, 2026. Police say samples of the substances will be forwarded to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for testing, while further investigations, including searches at the suspects’ residences, are ongoing. Preparations are also underway to arraign the suspects before court.
ASP Dzakpasu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to fighting drug-related crimes and appealed to the public to continue providing reliable information to support police operations.
The bust underscores intensified law enforcement efforts aimed at disrupting criminal networks and safeguarding communities in the region.
