The Tema Regional Police Command has foiled an attempted robbery at Community 24 in the Adjei-Kojo District within the Ashaiman Division, following a shootout that resulted in the deaths of three suspected robbers.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, December 21, 2025. According to the police, the Ashaiman Divisional Police Intelligence Team received a tip-off around 1:30 a.m. about an ongoing robbery at a private residence in the area.
In a statement released on Monday, December 23, the police said a response team was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers encountered six young men dressed in hoodies and face masks, and allegedly armed with machetes, firearms and other offensive weapons.
The suspects reportedly opened fire on the police, prompting officers to return fire in self-defence. During the exchange, three of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were later pronounced dead. The remaining three suspects, who are believed to have also suffered injuries, managed to flee the scene.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of several items, including three face masks, three machetes and an unregistered Royal 125 motorbike, which police believe was used by the suspects during the attempted robbery.
The bodies of the deceased suspects have been transported to the Police Hospital for preservation, identification and autopsy, as investigations into the incident continue.
