At least three people, including two journalists and a police officer, were killed in a shooting at the General Hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The attack occurred during a briefing to announce the reopening of the country’s largest public hospital, which had been previously seized by violent gangs.

The hospital, a symbol of Haiti’s struggle against escalating gang violence, was recaptured by the government in July.

Leslie Voltaire, head of Haiti’s transitional council, condemned the attack and extended condolences to the victims’ families. He vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Despite ongoing efforts to address the crisis, including the deployment of an international force, gang violence continues to grip Haiti. With 85% of Port-au-Prince under gang control, the country faces a dire humanitarian situation.
