21-Year-Old Remanded

A 21-year-old washing bay attendant has been remanded into police custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court for allegedly stealing GH¢46,306.90 from his friend’s bank account and using the money to finance betting activities.

The accused, Dominic Fordjour, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing and is expected to reappear before the court on June 15, 2026.

According to a report by Graphic Online published on June 3, 2026, the complainant, Bernard Kyei, an electrical welder, and Fordjour were close friends living at Afari near Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.

Chief Inspector Anthony Ohene Gyan, who prosecuted the case, told the court that Kyei opened a savings account at the Nkawie branch of GCB Bank about six months ago, accompanied by Fordjour. An amount of GH¢46,306.90 was subsequently deposited into the account.

The prosecution said Kyei later sought Fordjour’s assistance when registering for a mobile money account. During the registration process, Fordjour allegedly advised him to use “1957” as his security code.

Trouble emerged on May 25, 2026, when Kyei visited the bank to withdraw part of his savings, only to discover that the account had been emptied. A bank statement later revealed that the entire amount had allegedly been transferred through a mobile money number.

Suspecting foul play, Kyei reported the matter to the Nkawie Police, leading to Fordjour’s arrest.

According to the prosecution, Fordjour admitted in his caution statement that he had been withdrawing money from the complainant’s account in instalments and transferring it to his mobile money wallet whenever he needed funds.

Investigators further alleged that the accused confessed to spending the entire GH¢46,306.90 on betting activities.

Following police investigations, Fordjour was charged with stealing and subsequently arraigned before the Nkawie Circuit Court, where he was remanded pending further proceedings.
