The Western Regional Police Command has intercepted two Kia trucks carrying 152 bales of suspected Indian hemp during separate operations in the Shama Municipality and Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis on February 22, 2026.

According to the Regional Police PRO, Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, each bale contained about 80 compressed parcels. The first truck was stopped at the Assorku Barrier in Shama around 5:30 p.m. while heading from Accra to Takoradi. Intelligence from that arrest led to the interception of a second truck at Nkroful Junction in Sekondi-Takoradi.

She said the drugs were concealed under bags of sawdust to avoid detection. Three suspects were arrested, including one identified as Moses Kweku Tawiah, while three others fled. Officers also rejected a GH¢69,000 bribe allegedly offered by the suspects.

Police say investigations are ongoing and the suspects remain in custody.
