The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has sounded the alarm on the growing menace of social media-facilitated examination malpractices during the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

According to John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, the council is grappling with the challenge of students exploiting digital platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram to cheat.

“The situation is becoming increasingly difficult to control,” Kapi lamented. “With the advent of mobile phones and social media, it’s become a major problem for us to curb examination malpractice.”

The council has been working tirelessly to strengthen its security and monitoring systems to counter these threats.

“We are reviewing and strengthening our systems to ensure the integrity of the examination process,” Kapi assured.
