The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has commissioned the distribution of 100 hand pump machines to farmer groups across the region to enhance irrigation and boost agricultural productivity.

The brief ceremony, held at the Regional Coordinating Council on Monday, brought together several District Chief Executives (DCEs) who joined the minister for the exercise. They included Hon. John Milliim (Talensi), Ariku Martin Akudugu (Binduri), Hon. Abaare Abugba John (Garu), Mbilla Joseph Ayaaba (Tempane), James Ayammeyo (Bawku West), and Roland Atanga Ayoo, the Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga.

In his address, Hon. Atanga said the initiative aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s agenda to “reset the economy” by increasing agricultural output, reducing food imports, and strengthening food security across the country.

He explained that the 100 water pump machines were allocated to farmer groups rather than individual farmers, emphasizing the importance of collective ownership and shared access to ensure efficient water management and equitable use.

The Regional Minister urged beneficiaries to use the machines responsibly and warned against any attempts by individuals or groups to monopolize or hijack the equipment. He stressed that the success of the programme depends on cooperation, fairness, and accountability among all participating farmers.

Hon. Atanga reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting farmers in the Upper East Region with modern tools, technologies, and interventions aimed at improving productivity, increasing yields, and sustaining livelihoods.
