Preacher Dr. Kuuku Dadzie Ephraim, speaking on AP Radio 105.7 as part of his “Ability to See” teaching series, has cautioned that parents who live unrighteously cannot effectively guide their children in the ways of God.
Dr. Ephraim emphasized that a parent’s lifestyle plays a critical role in shaping a child’s moral and spiritual foundation. “If a father is a drunkard, abusive, or practices idol worship, and a mother is immoral or irresponsible, such individuals cannot lead their children in the Lord,” he stated.
“Parents who are in rebellion against God cannot use His Word to correct their children,” Dr. Ephraim stressed, adding that such parents, by their conduct, forfeit the respect and honour they expect from their children.
He urged parents seeking respect from their children to first honour God through righteous living, warning that any parent who neglects or mistreats their children will ultimately face divine judgment.
Discipline and Shared Parenting Responsibilities
Quoting Proverbs 29:15, which states, “The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother,” Dr. Ephraim highlighted the importance of parental discipline in raising wise and responsible children.
He particularly addressed mothers who, he said, sometimes hinder fathers from correcting or disciplining their children. “You did not raise the children alone,” he said. “Do not prevent their father from training them. Doing so only encourages rebellion and disobedience.”
Dr. Ephraim concluded by admonishing mothers who fail to uphold discipline, warning that neglectful parenting leads to the rise of a rebellious generation.
“When a mother ignores correction and repeats the same mistakes with her children, she breeds a legacy of disobedience,” he added. “Parenting is a sacred responsibility, and treating it lightly brings shame—not only to the mother but to the family and society as a whole.”
