Argentine football icon Lionel Messi has signed a contract extension with Inter Miami CF, committing his future to the Major League Soccer (MLS) club until 2028.

The new deal ensures Messi will be part of the team’s move to its new 25,000-seat Miami Freedom Park Stadium, which is currently under construction and expected to open in time for the 2026 MLS season.

Since joining Inter Miami from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, Messi has enjoyed tremendous success, helping the club capture both the Leagues Cup and the Supporters’ Shield. During the 2025 regular season, he delivered a stellar performance, scoring 29 goals and providing 17 assists in 28 games — achievements that earned him the MLS Golden Boot.

Expressing his joy after signing the new deal, Messi said:

“It makes me really happy to stay here and continue with this project that, besides being a dream, has become a beautiful reality — playing in this stadium, at Miami Freedom Park. Since I arrived in Miami, I’ve been very happy, so I’m truly glad to keep going here.”

Inter Miami finished third in the Eastern Conference this season with 19 wins, eight draws, and seven losses, and will face Nashville SC in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday, October 25.

Messi’s contract extension marks another major milestone for both the player and the club, as he continues to shape Inter Miami’s rise as a dominant force in American soccer.
