An American woman from California visiting family in Tepic, Mexico, has been temporarily separated from her teenage son and is struggling to access food amid ongoing security lockdowns.

Priscilla, whose surname was withheld for safety, told CNN that shelter-in-place warnings have prevented her from reaching her son, who is staying safely with a cousin nearby. She described seeing vehicles set ablaze by suspected cartel members, followed by deserted streets and the sound of ambulances.

With restaurants shut and hotel services limited, Priscilla said she and other guests are unsure when they will get their next meal as the situation remains tense.
