Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has publicly challenged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to “be bold” and attach a name to its recent unsigned statement addressing the slashing of the Black Stars’ budget for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Adams, who also serves as a Member of Parliament, has come under pressure in recent months for not disclosing budget figures related to Ghana’s international football assignments—despite President John Mahama’s directive in February to ensure transparency. The minister, however, maintains that there is nothing to hide.

According to Adams, the Ministry reviewed the initial $2 million budget submitted by the GFA and made adjustments, settling on a final figure of $1.3 million.

Responding to the GFA’s vague statement issued earlier this week, Adams questioned its credibility due to the absence of a signatory.

“The GFA’s statement has no name attached. Who wrote it? Is the person afraid to put his name there? Be bold. Who is their communications department?” he asked during an interview on Sporty FM.

The minister emphasized the need for transparency and documentation:

“We speak to documents. Are the GFA saying they did not submit estimates and that government did not slash their budget? If they respond, we’ll also respond accordingly.”

Meanwhile, the Black Stars have arrived in N’Djamena ahead of their crucial Group I World Cup qualifier against Chad on Thursday, September 4, at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno. The team will then return home to face Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8.

Under head coach Otto Addo, Ghana currently tops Group I with 15 points—three ahead of Comoros, who face Mali on Match Day 7. The Black Stars are scheduled to hold their final training session later on Wednesday.
