Somali security forces, together with allied community fighters, have killed 11 Al Shabab militants in coordinated operations across the Mudug and Bakool regions, while successfully preventing a planned suicide attack, the country’s Defence Ministry reported.
In Mudug’s north-central region, Macaawisley community fighters launched a raid on Dumaaye village in the Harardheere district, killing six Al Shabab fighters and recovering four AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and other military equipment.
Elsewhere, Somali National Army troops foiled an attempted suicide bombing near Dabaagalo, approximately 35 kilometres northwest of Harardheere, thwarting an effort by the Al Qaeda-linked group to destabilize local security.
In Bakool, government forces carried out operations along the Garasweyne–Moraagabey route, around 37 kilometres from Hudur, killing five additional militants and seizing two AK-47 rifles and other weapons.
The Defence Ministry confirmed that some of the deceased were senior Al Shabab figures, including Ibraahim Caliyow, Mohamed Macalin, Aadan Mohamed Same, and Abdullahi Aadan Dheere.
Since July, Somali forces, supported by the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia and international partners, have stepped up counterterrorism operations against Al Shabab, which has been responsible for attacks on civilians, officials, and security personnel for more than 16 years.
