Golf legend Sir Nick Faldo has returned home after undergoing what his team described as a “successful” open-heart surgery.
A message shared on Faldo’s official social media account confirmed that the six-time major champion and his wife, Lindsay, left Cleveland after two weeks, following a scheduled preventative procedure to repair an enlarged aorta. The surgery was performed by renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. Lars Svensson at the Cleveland Clinic.
The statement noted that Faldo is now focused on his recovery and is looking forward to resuming his golf course design work. He is also expected to attend Masters Week in Augusta, Georgia, where he will mark the anniversary of his 1996 Masters victory, famously referred to as “Six back in ’96.”
Faldo, 68, is regarded as one of the greatest golfers of the modern era and Britain’s most successful player. Over his career, he won 43 professional tournaments, including three Masters titles in 1989, 1990 and 1996, and three Open Championship victories in 1987, 1990 and 1992.
He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1997, named PGA Player of the Year in 1990, and spent a total of 97 weeks as the world’s number one golfer.
