President John Mahama has announced a new policy that will require senior high schools across Ghana to set up poultry and livestock farms as part of efforts to boost self-sufficiency and practical learning.

Speaking at the 65th anniversary celebration of Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco)—the alma mater of both the President and the First Lady—Mahama explained that the initiative will enable schools to produce their own meat rather than depend on market purchases.

“We are introducing a policy that will ensure every secondary school has a poultry farm and a livestock farm. Ghanasco will be one of the schools selected,” President Mahama stated.

According to him, the policy aims not only to reduce food-related expenses in schools but also to give students hands-on experience in agriculture while ensuring a reliable supply of fresh meat on campus.

President Mahama also revealed that the government plans to expand infrastructure in all Category C schools, upgrading them to Category A standards to enhance teaching and learning across the country.
